Some of the most amazing food comes out of the smallest, most cramped, aesthetically displeasing places of all times.
That being said, Carlo’s in Yonkers is a cozy, casual Italian restaurant in Yonkers serving up some of the best Italian food in the area.
There are not enough words in the English dictionary to describe their “garlic bread a la casa.”
Picture garlic bread topped with fresh tomatoes, pancetta, with warm creamy florentine sauce and topped with gooey, melted cheese. I could eat the entire portion myself and die happily in a carb-induced coma.
For the main course, I suggest the lobster ravioli. This dish in particular is one of my favorites but many restaurants (including some of my favorites) get the sauce all wrong. At some places, the sauce is too oily and either lacks flavor or separates itself from the cream. Other places use too much cream and it tastes like you’re eating lobster ravioli with some heavy cream on top.
But Carlo’s gets it just right. Perfect, savory and tasty cream sauce with a touch of brandy that adds a bit of sweetness to the sauce-a delightful surprise. And they go to extra lengths to make this dish drool-worthy but adding bits of shrimp to it.
I like to top mine with some grated Parmesan because I’m a cheese fiend. But there you have it; Lactose intolerants beware!
